On the eleventh floor
of Montefiore hospital
I have witnessed many ghosts
I watched a man roar
as an aide helped him to his feet
his right side was paralytic
she clutching his hip
and standing to his side
as they walked a hundred feet
A tear fell from my eye
watching the familiar scene
of that delicate man
and that caregivers grin
For it did not matter
if it was five feet
or a mile
the world had just shifted
and so did my heart
I watched as the many souls
that walked these halls before
lifted his legs
And whispered words
Of encouragement
Sharing my joy
And soothing our pain
Some of these ghosts
Never left the eleventh floor
had I died
I would have been tempted
to stay in that place of hope
to this day, I think
A little piece of me still lingers
